Prepping with Eye Glasses

If you wear eyeglasses, preparing for a post SHTF world has an extra degree of difficulty. I wear glasses and without them, I’m about as handy as the tits on a boar hog. Back in my days as an Alaskan trapper, the one thing I protected at the expense of all else was my glasses. Being sometimes 100s of miles away from another human being meant that my glasses and my ability to see were ranked pretty damn high. In a world without just in time delivery and affordable glasses, we who wear glasses will need to take extra precautions in our preps to assure that we remain among “the seeing”.

The first thing to make sure you have is an Eye Glasses Repair Kit The one I linked to is top notch with 1100 pieces, including screws, nose pads, screwdrivers and more. The ability to repair your glasses when you lose a screw could be the difference between life and death. If you wear glasses, you should have multiple sets of these kits. One in your survival bag, one in your bug out bag, one in the glove box of the truck, one at the bug out location, etc, etc.

Electrical tape is next on the list. I always keep a roll of electrical tape in my coat pocket. You have no idea how many times I’ve had a cow or a piece of machinery break my glasses into multiple pieces and I’ve been able to make them serviceable again with electrical tape! No, the end result ain’t pretty but at least I can see.

Have multiple pairs. In the old days, this was pretty cost prohibitive. But today, you can order a pair of extra glasses (that are just as high a quality as the ones you pay big bucks for) online for under $20. You read that right! Under $20. There is absolutely no reason that a serious preparedness minded person shouldn’t have 4 or 5 backup pairs of glasses.

Being without glasses is a HUGE disadvantage that could cost you your life. Have the tools, parts, and spare pairs, so you don’t have the worry of being without your eyesight at the worst possible time!
